Imaging engineers are leaving the industry because of retirement, among other things, and the rate of entry of new engineers is not keeping pace. One of many strategies out there is to build talent within an in-house healthcare technology management (HTM) program to help address this need. Banner Health Technology Management/ENTECH will share steps of their journey to begin training within not only to attempt to address the broader needs of a labor storage but also to build stronger satisfaction among tenured employees as the same time.

Perry Kirwan is the vice president of technology management/ENTECH for Banner Health – an integrated delivery network (IDN) based in Phoenix, Arizona. The scope of the program includes clinical technology assessment and planning, diagnostic imaging and non-imaging support/maintenance services, furniture/fixtures and equipment (FF&E) planning/project management services, medical physics, regulatory and compliance, medical device integration and medical device security. The IDN includes 29 hospitals, 11 surgical centers, 288 health centers/clinics, 23 outpatient imaging centers, 43 urgent care centers, Sun Health Research Institute and Banner Alzheimer’s Institute, across 6 states. The organization also brings in $5-$6M annually in revenue under the commercial name ENTECH.
Jon Morgan is originally from Utah where he joined the US Navy in December 1995, serving five years as an Aviation Electricians Mate during Southern Watch. Post military service he worked for Kokusai Semiconductor and Toshiba Medical Systems in Arizona, where he learned computed tomography and basic X-ray prior to joining Banner Health in June 2007. Jon worked as a CT service technician for several years prior to moving into his current leadership role as a Senior Manager for Diagnostic Imaging Support Services.
Jon Elmore has been in the healthcare technology management field for approximately 15 years. Jon’s entry into the field was as a field service technician in 2004 before moving into work as an in-house technician. This was followed by entry into leadership in healthcare technology management over the latter half of his career. Jon is currently a director for Banner Health Technology Management/ENTECH with responsibility for Banner Baywood Medical Center, Banner Heart Hospital, Banner Ironwood Medical Center and Banner Goldfield Medical Center.
