Navigating Burnout: An Introspective and Scientific Review of Burnout in Medical Imaging

Sunday, February 23, 2025, 9:30-10:30 AM

Lakeidra Taylor Bell, Clinical Coordinator/Didactic Faculty, Baton Rouge General

Since the 1970s, burnout has become a relevant concept after it was researched by Dr. Herbert J. Freudenberger. Research has shown that burnout syndrome can have detrimental effects such as the loss of promising radiologic technologists (RTs) as well as reduced employee confidence and morale. However, burnout syndrome can be treated with the help of coworkers as well as department managers and administrators by providing intervention, guidance, and support. The purpose of this presentation is to identify the effects burnout has on RTs and how imaging departments can combat burnout in order to promote resiliency among RTs.
